Thermage^®

As your body ages, the collagen that helps keep skin firm gradually breaks down, causing sagging and wrinkles. Thermage^®, also called ThermaCool^™, is an advanced procedure designed to stimulate new collagen growth within the skin without any surgery or downtime.

During the Thermage^® procedure, Dr. Behmand will use a hand piece to deliver radio frequency energy to the areas of concern. The collagen within the deep layer of the skin, called the dermis, is heated, causing it to contract and shrink. Although there may be a slight firming effect immediately following treatment most patients notice a gradual change over several weeks as the body’s healing process creates new collagen in the treated areas. This new collagen typically causes the skin to tighten, producing a firmer, more youthful appearance.

Commonly treated areas with Thermage^® include:

• Face and Neck
• Eyes
• Abdomen
• Arms
• Thighs

Depending on the area of skin to be treated, Thermage^® may take one to two hours. Dr. Behmand will likely ask you to arrive about an hour before your procedure so that he may apply topical anesthetic to the target area. For many patients, Thermage^® treatment may also be performed without topical anesthesia with relative comfort. This is possible due to the simultaneous deep skin cooling mechanism of the Thermage^® treatment system.

Following Your Thermage^® Procedure

After your Thermage^® procedure, you will be asked to refrain from physical activity for the next 24 hours, but you are otherwise usually free to go back to normal activities immediately after treatment. Side effects of Thermage^® are rare but can include temporary redness or sensitivity in the treated area.

Each day you will begin to see improvement in the treated skin, and the full results of your Thermage^® treatment typically become visible within a few months after your procedure.
