Vaginal Rejuvenation

Surgical vaginal rejuvenation, also known as perineoplasty or vaginal tightening, is a surgical procedure designed to tighten the muscles of the vaginal introitus, or vaginal entry. Many women lose vaginal muscle strength following childbirth. While some or all of this lost muscle tone may be regained in the ensuing 6–12 months after giving vaginal birth, each added pregnancy can further damage the muscles, beyond the range from which they can fully recover.  There are many reasons a woman may consider surgical vaginal tightening. Dr. Ramin Behmand, and his staff understand that vaginal laxity is a condition that is a private, and sensitive matter. During your consultation, Dr. Behmand will discuss your concerns and answer your specific questions in detail.

Perineoplasty, or vaginal tightening, strictly addresses the vaginal opening, and it does not affect the external cosmetic appearance of the inner and outer labia. For patients who are interested in addressing the cosmetic appearance of the inner and outer labia, we encourage you to read about the labiaplasty procedure, as this might be an option for you.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Candidates

Common reasons for undergoing a surgical vaginal rejuvenation include:

It is important to note that these symptoms may be caused by other factors, and a medical professional examination can help determine the origin. Regardless of the reasons for desiring vaginal rejuvenation, Dr. Behmand strives to make his patients feel as comfortable as possible, and he will listen attentively to all expressed concerns and goals for the outcome.

Many patients choose to combine vaginal rejuvenation with labiaplasty. This combination allows Dr. Behmand to reduce excess skin of the inner labia if so indicated, as well as perform perineoplasty muscle tightening.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Procedure (Perineoplasty)

Vaginal rejuvenation takes place at our surgery center. This procedure is done under general anesthesia to help ensure optimal safety, and patient experience.

The operation typically takes 2 hours, and it is done on an outpatient basis. Most patients can return home shortly following the completion of the procedure.

Vaginal Rejuvenation Recovery

Within 1 to 2 hours after the surgery, you will be released from the surgery center to begin recovery. You will be provided with detailed post-operative instructions.

Most patients experience mild discomfort following vaginal rejuvenation, and will be prescribed pain medication to help control any pain.

Dr. Behmand asks that patients take at least 5 to 7 days off work to optimize recovery. Within this time, it is important to rest. Patients will be instructed to take at least 4 weeks off from the gym and any other strenuous activity. They will also be advised to refrain from engaging in solo or accompanied sexual intercourse, as well as tampon use, for at least 6 weeks following surgery.
