Mini Tummy Tuck

The mini tummy tuck procedure is ideal for those patients who only have loose skin at the lowest part of the abdomen, below the navel. While the scar of a mini tummy tuck is typically smaller than that of a standard tummy tuck, the procedure only addresses a limited area of the abdomen. Patients who are good candidates for a mini tummy tuck are often those who have had a C-section with poor healing around the scar with some skin laxity below the navel.

The mini tummy tuck, also known as mini abdominoplasty, is designed to remove the poorly healed C-section scar and improve the contour of the lower abdomen. An advantage of the mini tummy tuck is that there are no incisions around the navel. The main drawback of the procedure is that it does not allow for tightening of separated abdominal muscles. Also known as rectus diastasis, separation of the abdominal muscles frequently occurs during pregnancy to make room for the baby. The second drawback is that it does not tighten, or contour the skin above the navel.

Therefore, a mini tummy tuck is appropriate for a select few patients who have localized laxity of skin or poor contour of just the lower abdominal area. The mini tummy tuck can also be combined with liposuction to achieve the desired contour of the mid-section of the body. Dr. Ramin Behmand, will meet with prospective patients for an initial consultation to determine whether a mini tummy tuck is right for them, or if an alternative procedure better meets their needs.

The Mini Tummy Tuck Procedure

The mini tummy tuck (mini abdominoplasty) is performed under general anesthesia. When compared to the standard tummy tuck, the surgery is shorter, and the recovery somewhat easier. Most patients can return to work within 10 days, and they can typically resume exercising approximately 4–6 weeks after the operation. Dr. Behmand uses a “drain-less” technique that eliminates the need for post-operative drainage tubes. This technique can significantly improve post-operative comfort and mobility.
