Mini Tummy Tuck
The mini tummy tuck procedure is ideal for those patients who only have loose skin at the very lowest part of the abdomen, below the navel. While the scar of a mini tummy tuck is typically smaller than that of a full tummy tuck, the procedure only addresses a limited area of the abdomen. Patients who are good candidates for a mini tummy tuck, also known as mini abdominoplasty, are often those who have had a C-section with poor healing around the scar but with little else in the way of skin laxity. The mini tummy tuck is designed to remove the poorly healed C-section scar and improve contour of the lower abdomen. An advantage of the mini tummy tuck is that there are no incisions around the navel. The main drawback of the procedure is that it does not allow for tightening of separated abdominal muscles (which can often occur during pregnancy), and it does not tighten or contour the skin above the navel. Therefore, a mini tummy tuck is appropriate for a select few patients who have localized laxity of skin or poor contour of just the lower abdominal area. The mini tummy tuck can also be combined with liposuction to achieve the desired contour of the mid-section of the body. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Ramin Behmand, will meet with prospective patients for an initial consultation to determine whether a mini tummy tuck is right for their needs.
The Mini Tummy Tuck Procedure
Performed under general anesthesia, a mini tummy tuck is shorter in duration and recovery time than the regular abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) operation. Most patients are able to return to work within 10 days, and they are typically able to resume exercising approximately 4-6 weeks after the operation. Dr. Behmand uses a “drain-less” technique that eliminates the need for post-operative drainage tubes. This technique can significantly improve post-operative comfort and mobility.
