Restylane®
If you begin to notice a loss of facial volume, you might be interested in finding out what treatment options are best for you. There are several surgical procedures that can help to reduce facial aging and volume loss, such as facelift and facial-fat grafting. However, for our patients who prefer a non-surgical approach or have already had surgery and are looking to maintain their appearance by restoring volume, Restylane®, a soft tissue filler, offers a minimally-invasive solution.
Restylane®, commonly used to add volume to facial areas such as the lips and nasolabial folds, is a dermal filler containing hyaluronic acid. This substance occurs naturally in the human body for the purpose of delivering nutrients and hydration to the skin. Restylane® uses a biodegradable form of hyaluronic acid that is non-animal based, typically alleviating the need for allergy tests before treatment.
As one of the most commonly used dermal fillers, hyaluronic acid-based Restylane® is most often used to help correct moderate to severe wrinkles in the nasolabial folds, minimize acne scars, and augment thin lips. For most patients, Restylane® remains effective for approximately six months to one year before repeat treatment is required to maintain results.
Depending on the size of the area to be treated, Restylane® can usually be applied in as little as 30 minutes and can be combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM®, or Thermage®. Side effects are rare and may include temporary swelling, redness, and occasional bruising at the injection site.
