Rhinoplasty, Brow Lift, Facelift, Eyelid Surgery, Neck Lift and More in San Francisco by Dr. Behmand

Your face is the first thing people see when they meet you; by taking cues from your eyes, smile, and expression, others will make assumptions about your feelings and personality. If you feel that the appearance of your face doesn’t accurately reflect who you are on the inside, plastic surgery can enhance your best features and correct imperfections. Dr. Ramin Behmand offers such plastic surgery procedures as rhinoplasty, facelift, and brow lift at his San Francisco-area facility, all designed to give you the youthful, proportionate face you’ve always wanted.

Rhinoplasty

There are no set standards for the definitions of a beautiful nose. Face shape, placement of other facial features, even one’s own opinion: all of these variables help determine whether a nose is aesthetically pleasing. If you feel that a different nose would improve the appearance of your face, rhinoplasty may benefit you. San Francisco-area plastic surgeon Ramin Behmand is extremely skilled in the artistic considerations necessary for a successful nose surgery, and can help you make the right decisions for the best results.

Dr. Behmand can correct nearly any kind of nasal imperfection with advanced rhinoplasty techniques. Noses that are too wide or long can be reduced, oversized or improperly formed tips can be reshaped, and crooked or twisted bridges can be straightened. Dr. Behmand can even improve airflow for people whose noses are internally malformed. Most importantly, the final result of rhinoplasty will be a nose that is flattering and in proportion to the rest of your face.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

The incision for rhinoplasty can be made in one of two places. In most cases, Dr. Behmand will make this incision inside the nose, eliminating any visible scarring. If your nose requires more extensive work, a small incision may be placed across the area between your nostrils.

Depending on its level of complexity, the average rhinoplasty at our San Francisco-area facility takes about three hours. During that time, Dr. Behmand will address your specific needs, reshaping bone and cartilage to create your new silhouette. When finished, he will then redrape the skin on your nose, suture the incision, and apply a splint and other dressings to help your nose heal.

After Your Rhinoplasty

For the first day or two after your rhinoplasty, you will likely feel achy and puffy, and you may experience a headache and pain in your nasal area. Dr. Behmand will prescribe pain medication to help alleviate the discomfort. The swelling will begin to subside after three days; bruising will fade after two weeks.

The most important rhinoplasty advice given to our patients is to follow the directions of Dr. Behmand. These instructions are intended to speed up healing as much as possible and to maximize the chance of a successful surgery.

Your nose is one of your most unique features. If you are considering a change through rhinoplasty and live in the San Francisco area, you deserve to speak with a top plastic surgeon who has years of ongoing experience. Brow Lift

Do people often ask you if you are tired, angry, or upset — even when you are happy and rested? Has age caused the skin on your forehead to droop or furrow together? If these situations describe you, you may be presenting an appearance to others that doesn’t accurately represent the way you feel. A brow lift from the San Francisco-area office of Dr. Behmand may be able to correct deep frown lines, horizontal forehead creases, and droopy eyebrows, helping to match your expression to your mood.

Because the face is a complex interconnection of muscles, a consultation is especially important before undergoing a brow lift. San Francisco plastic surgeon Ramin Behmand can examine the underlying cause of your wrinkles and determine whether a brow lift or another form of cosmetic treatment is right for you. In certain cases, the effect of a brow lift can be magnified by combining it with other procedures, such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, or laser resurfacing.

The Brow Lift Procedure

There are two commonly used methods of performing a brow lift. These include the traditional open incision brow lift, which uses an incision across the scalp, and the newer endoscopic brow lift. Today, the latter technique has been refined and produces excellent and predictable results, and is considered the procedure of choice. Therefore, most patients seeking a brow lift at our San Francisco-area facility will be evaluated for the endoscopic brow lift first.

First, your hair will be tied back and five small incisions will be made at intervals along the hairline. Then, using an endoscope, or small camera, and other surgical instruments, Dr. Behmand will lift and alter the tissues beneath the skin of the forehead. Sutures may be used to secure the eyebrows into a higher position.

After your brow lift is complete, you will find that your face has a naturally rested, refreshed look. To find out if brow lift is the right choice for you, contact the office of San Francisco plastic surgeon Ramin Behmand today to schedule a consultation.

Facelift

Your face is an essential representation of who you are. You rely on its appearance to aid in recognition, non-verbal communication, and first impressions of your identity and personality. If you have begun to notice the emergence of facial aging signs, such as jowls, flattened cheeks, and sagging skin, a facelift at the San Francisco-area office of Dr. Ramin Behmand can help turn back the clock. Many of our facelift patients report that along with a fresher, younger face, they also recapture a great deal of self-confidence.

Facelift Procedure

Also known as a rhytidectomy, the facelift procedure depends largely on the individual features and goals of the patient. In general, the incision for a facelift begins within the hairline above each ear and continues around and behind the ear.

Dr. Behmand will reposition the muscles and other underlying facial soft tissues to smooth the face’s architecture into a more youthful appearance. This type of facelift, now common throughout San Francisco and beyond, is far more effective in creating a long-lasting youthful appearance than were older facelift methods that only tightened the skin.

After your facelift, you will likely experience a moderate amount of swelling and bruising. These effects will subside in two to three weeks. The best way to speed the healing process after a facelift is to follow Dr. Behmand’s post-operative instructions; these may include avoiding alcohol, heavy housework, and saunas for at least two weeks after surgery. About two weeks after the facelift procedure, most San Francisco-area patients are able to return to their jobs and enjoy their everyday activities.

If you would like to take advantage of the fresh new look attainable through a facelift, contact San Francisco plastic surgeon Ramin Behmand today to schedule a consultation.

Neck Lift

Coupled with the face, the neck is in the most visible part of the body, therefore aging related changes are difficult to conceal. If you are bothered by any of the following conditions, then a neck lift may be right for you:

  • Excess loose skin and fatty tissue of the neck
  • "Skin bands" which run from beneath your chin to your lower neck
  • A poorly defined chin-neck angle
  • Decreased definition of the jaw line

The type of procedure recommended for your neck lift will depend on several factors, including the degree of skin excess and laxity, presence of fatty tissue, and your goals for neck rejuvenation. Below are the procedures used for neck rejuvenation and the specific indications for each procedure:

Thermage® (Thermocouple™)

This non-surgical approach is indicated if you have a small amount of excess neck skin and fatty tissue. Thermage® uses radio frequency waves to tighten the treated skin. There is no downtime, and you may return to your regular activities the next day. Click here to learn more about Thermage®.

Neck and Chin Liposuction

Two of the defining features of a youthful face are a well-defined jaw line and a pleasing angle where the neck and chin meet. Chin and neck fullness or a poorly defined jaw line can create the illusion of excess weight or premature aging.

If you are not pleased with the loss of definition in your jaw line, chin, and neck area, liposuction may be able to improve the appearance of these areas. This is a minimally invasive surgical procedure best suited if you have excess fatty tissue of the neck, but minimal excess neck skin. Through three small, well-concealed incisions, the fatty tissue is removed by use of a specialized suction device. Click here to read more about the liposuction procedure.

Facelift To Improve Neck Contour

Patients who have a droopy chin and neck due to the presence of excess skin may wish to undergo a combined neck and facelift. Through a single surgical procedure, San Francisco plastic surgeon Ramin Behmand can achieve dramatic improvements in neck contour, jaw line definition, and facial firmness.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Because they are the natural focal point of your face, your eyes are considered the best representation of your inner thoughts, moods, and even your personality. As you age, sagging upper eyelids and baggy lower lids can make you appear tired, sad, and older than your true age. For some people, excess skin can even impair vision. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to lift droopy eyelids and remove excess skin around the eyes, resulting in eyes that look fresh, well-rested, and alert.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure

Dr. Behmand will examine your eyes in a consultation prior to your surgery to determine the extent of surgery needed and the best technique to use.

Upper eyelids are treated through an incision that is made in the natural crease above the eye. Dr. Behmand removes the excess skin and fatty tissue before closing the incision. Since the incision is located inconspicuously, the scar is very hard to detect once healed.

If you need your lower eyelids corrected, Dr. Behmand will make an incision just below the lower eyelashes before removing excess tissue. Special adjustments may also be made at this point. For example, the fat beneath the eye can be redistributed to eliminate puffiness, bulges, or to improve the semicircular hollowing seen beneath the eye; in some patients, the underlying muscle will be tightened.

Dr. Behmand may decide that the best approach for removing fat from the lower eyelid is with a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. In this procedure, an incision is placed inside the lower eyelid. This technique requires no external incisions, but it cannot be used to remove excess skin. Patients may elect to have their eyelid surgery combined with a facelift or brow lift to maximize the rejuvenating effect.

A youthful, well-proportioned face is only a click away. The only way to find out if plastic surgery such as rhinoplasty, facelift, or brow lift is right for you is to contact the San Francisco-area Behmand Institute of Plastic Surgery. During your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Behmand, he will answer your questions and help you decide on a course of action that will benefit you for years to come.

Chin Surgery

Chin surgery, also called genioplasty, can dramatically improve the appearance of a weak chin or overly rounded face. The most common chin surgery procedure is augmentation with a chin implant, in which a custom-shaped piece of solid silicone is used to enhance the size and shape of the chin.

The Chin Surgery Procedure

During your consultation sessions with Dr. Behmand, you will discuss in detail what you want your chin to look like. Dr. Behmand will take precise measurements of your cheekbones and jaw to ensure that the final outcome is aesthetically pleasing. Then, he will shape a solid piece of silicone into the desired implant shape. Note that unlike the silicone implants used for breast augmentation, the implants used for facial surgery are solid and firm to the touch.

To place the implant, Dr. Behmand will create a small incision near your chin. In most cases, he is able to make this incision inside your mouth to avoid scarring and lessen recovery time. The chin implant is placed inside a pocket in front of the jawbone and secured in place.

For several days after the surgery, your lower face may be swollen and somewhat bruised. You will need to eat and bathe carefully to protect your chin area. Dr. Behmand will be able to give you the best instructions for limiting exercise and activity, based on your lifestyle. As you heal, your new appearance will become apparent, and you can enjoy the confident, well-balanced face in the mirror from then on.

Ear Reshaping

Ear surgery, also called otoplasty, can be performed on patients of all ages. The most common uses of ear surgery are to reduce the size of large ears and to reposition ears that stick out too far from the head. Otoplasty may also be used to reshape ears that have been malformed due to birth defects.

The majority of ear surgery is performed on school-age children, although the procedure is useful for patients of all ages. Many of Dr. Behmand’s adult otoplasty patients choose to have their ears altered in order to keep their face proportional after rhinoplasty or chin implants.

The Ear Surgery Procedure

When correcting the angle of protruding ears, Dr. Behmand is able to create an incision behind the ear that will not be visible after the surgery. By carefully sculpting and bending the cartilage in the ear, Dr. Behmand will create the desired look for the ear, then suture it into its new location.

After surgery, the ears will be dressed in a heavy bandage; this will be replaced with a more lightweight “headband” style of bandage after a few days. Both children and adults can return to school or work after about a week. Heavy activity in which the ears may be bumped should be avoided for about a month.
